Preventive Dentistry in The Woodlands
The Foundation of Your Beautiful Smile
Modern families are busier than ever, and that’s true for parents and children alike, so the last thing people want is to have to take time to deal with a dental problem! That’s why, at our practice, Dr. David Cunningham and our team like to focus most of our attention on preventive care. With the services outlined below, we can catch and treat dental issues as quickly as possible, and we can even stop many before they ever start. With just one preventive appointment every six months, we can help your entire family enjoy problem-free smiles year after year. Is it time for your next one? If so, contact us today.
Checkups & Cleanings
Every patient experience at our practice begins with a checkup and cleaning, because when it comes to protecting your long-term oral health, nothing does it better! These appointments will give Dr. Cunningham the chance to learn all he can about your dental health and you as a person so he can figure out the best ways to take care of your smile. And, with a cleaning, we’ll be able to remove plaque and tartar from your teeth and break up minor surface stains to keep them nice and white!
Periodontal Therapy
Periodontal therapy is what we use to combat the most common dental problem in the world: periodontal disease, better known as gum disease. Early symptoms are mild and include swollen, red, and tender gums, but it can easily lead to gum recession and tooth loss! Using a combination of screenings, deep cleanings, laser treatments, and antibiotic therapy, we can make sure this global issue is never a problem for your family.
Children’s Dentistry
Taking care of The Woodlands’ littlest smiles is one of our favorite things to do, and dare we say, we’re pretty good at it! Dr. Cunningham has been taking care of children so long that his former child patients are starting to bring in their own! We’ll help protect your child’s growing smile by providing cavity prevention, monitoring their oral development, and offering education so they can begin forming healthy habits at home.
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer is rarely talked about, but it actually claims at least one life per hour here in the U.S. alone. Fortunately, it is actually very treatable when detected early, which is why Dr. Cunningham recommends that every adult have at least one oral cancer screening per year. He can perform one as part of your regular checkups, during which he’ll examine your lips, gums, tongue, cheeks, throat, neck, and face for any signs of cancerous tissues. Should he find anything, he can help you quickly get follow-up treatment.
Fluoride Treatment
Fluoride is a mineral that has long been added to toothpaste and public water sources because it has been shown to provide a safe and natural way to strengthen the teeth against tooth decay and cavities. Due to an increasingly sugary diet and the growing popularity of un-fluoridated bottled water, many patients aren’t getting enough fluoride during the day to keep their teeth adequately protected. Fortunately, we can provide every member of your family with a quick and easy topical fluoride treatment as part of your regular checkups.
Toothpastes / Mouthwashes
While dental appointments are great, by far the most important thing a person can do to take care of their teeth is brush and floss consistently at home. Our team is happy to give you recommendations on how to improve your home routine as well as help you find which products are best for your particular teeth. We can even provide prescription strength toothpastes and mouthwashes that you won’t find on store shelves.
